A dense concentration of restaurants, bars, clubs, coffeehouses, diverse shopping and a thriving theater scene make Lakeview a desirable place for the under-thirty set that makes up the neighborhood’s primary age group. Despite the great nightlife, shopping and dining, apartment rents in Lakeview (and its encompassed neighborhoods: Lakeview East, North Halsted, Wrigleyville and West Lakeview) are lower than much of downtown Chicago, especially closer to the Loop.
That’s hardly to say that Lakeview is the boonies. Bordered by West Diversey Parkway, West Irving Park Road, North Ravenswood Avenue and Lake Michigan, Lakeview is crossed by Ashland Avenue, Belmont Avenue, North Clark Street, and North Sheffield Avenue. Lake Shore Drive provides easy access north and south for car commuters, and for those who ride public transit, there are eight "El" stops and eighteen city bus routes in the community’s borders. Situated only four miles from the Loop, Lakeview is an excellent location for people looking for downtown Chicago apartments, without the steep rent of apartments in downtown Chicago.
Though there’s no shortage of things to do, it’s easy to get away from the scene. One of the benefits of Lakeview Chicago apartments and houses is that the neighborhood is exceptionally walkable. Just steps off any of the neighborhood’s arteries lie rows of carefully maintained houses trimmed with tree-lined streets. A short walk will put you in one of Chicago’s most popular neighborhoods for shopping, eating or having a good time.
Speaking of a good time, Lakeview is one of the prime spots for summer fun in Chicago, as the home of Wrigley Field and the Chicago Cubs. Wrigleyville has an abundance of sports bars and rooftop spots to cheer for the Cubbies.
Lakeview pairs lots of Chicago’s best features for a great neighborhood atmosphere. The Loop is close by and easily accessible, but rents are lower than high-rise apartments in downtown Chicago. Some of the city’s best dining, nightlife and shopping are a short walk from home, but home is on a quiet street. Not that you’d want to leave, but if you did, it’s easy to walk, drive or catch the El.
